A well known saying in photography is, “you can find a whole world to shoot in your own backyard.” I suppose it depends on what is in your backyard, but to some extent this is true. There is a macro world of insects, patterns, flowers, wood, cement, several opportunities if you look carefully enough. I spotted this Indian Stick insect on a window screen. I thought it was a twig at first but it had a leg sticking out so I looked at it more carefully. This was my first time seeing this type of insect. I suspect they are an invasive species not native to the Monterey Bay Area where I found it. I quickly grabbed my camera and put my macro lens on. The depth of field is so shallow on this lens it is difficult to use. Even at f22 the legs are not totally in focus. I need to focus stack. Still, the results are worth it.
