Bike Bags

So bike bags are critical to enjoying your ride since you can store your phone, wallet, multitool, tire irons, pump, tube, energy bars etc. Carrying these items on your person is uncomfortable. Some good brands are jandd.com I like their Mountain Wedge III seat bag.

Another brand I recommend is revelatedesigns.com I use and recommend the Mountain Feedbag for $49. You can store a a variety of items in it, a water bottle in the main pocket and energy bars, candy, or tissues in the outside pockets. For my phone and wallet, I use a top tube bag called the Mag-Tank 2000 for $65. They have a lot more bags, but these are the ones I use.

For my mountain bike, I had to have custom bike bags made. I had BroadFork Bags make my bags. I followed the directions for measuring for my frame bag $175 and and Down Under Bag $75. These are custom made bags. I tried other bags, but mountain bikes are so unique that it’s usually best just to get custom made bags. I love these bags and highly recommend others to go this route. Jacquelyn is a one woman shop so there can be a 4-6 week wait from the time you order it until she contacts you when it’s your turn to have her create your bags.

I also have a street bike with Jones H Bars. I love these bars! I wanted a bag for the middle of these bars and tried the Jones H-Bar Pack for $64 but found it too small. I also tried the BroadFork Banana Hammock for $70 and liked it better than the Jones pack, but it too was too small to put a cell phone in vertically. The Jones Loophole Pack for $98 made by Revelate looks interesting since it sits higher than the handlebars. I opted to have BroadFork make a larger deeper Banana Hammock. I wanted to put my cell phone in vertically and have extra space for stuff. Jacquelyn put in extra mesh pockets and a divider for me. For $85 I am really happy with it. Still, if I bought another one, I’d consider having the bag sit higher than the bar like the Jones Loophole pack by Revelate. You’ll lose the gripping position of the front bar though so that’s the tradeoff. Another advantage of custom made bags is you get to choose from a wide variety of colors.
