October 2023 – Canon Japan formally discontinues the last EOS-M cameras, saying goodbye to EF-M – So we knew this was coming, especially with the release of the Canon R10, R50, and R100. Still, there is not yet an equivalent to the M6II since these R models use a 24mp APS-C sensor and not the 32mp version in the M6II. Maybe a future R50 will use the 32mp sensor?
The EF-M system is still my favorite camera system ever! You can still buy lenses and bodies on the used market and they will last for years and years. Look at all the old Nikon F mount lenses from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s that are still in use. EF-M lenses have metal barrels and lens mounts so they’ll last a long time. I shoot with the M6II and the 22mm and 32mm whenever I travel since taking a full frame system is just too much weight and bulk. I shot this in March 2024. Though discontinued, I would still recommend buying it on the used market.
