Roomba maintenance

So I bought these Roomba replacement parts from Amazon for $17

Tools needed for this job are a small Philips screwdriver and a medium size flat head.

Unscrew the brush and replace.

Remove the front roller wheel and clean. Then gently remove the housing the front roller wheel was attached to with the flat head screwdriver, clean and reinstall. My front roller wheel was so full of hair and dirt that it wasn’t spinning freely using up extra battery power.

Remove both brushes, clean, replace.

Remove the filter, clean the housing in the sink, replace the filter.

Clean off the contacts on the charging base and Roomba unit so that it charges smoothly. The green Brillo pad on the back of Costco sponges works great for this. That’s it! Your Roomba is almost as good as new. The battery will have to be replaced at some point, but it’s only $26. I’ve had mine for over 5 years and use it once a week and it’s still going strong on the original battery.

I use my Roomba in my garage, backyard, and house. Just empty the dustbin and smack filter on the ground and the 600 series will last a long time. Email me if you have any questions.

I bought the Samsung Powerbot. MSRP was $599 but I got a new one for $200. The unit is quieter but the dustbin is so small and the navigation will take it off of a stair and it will get stuck. I recommend the 600 series Roomba. I don’t recommend buying at Costco since you can find better deals on the iRobot website. Also, the more expensive Roombas aren’t really worth it. It’s so easy to empty the dustbin and smack the filter on the ground outside that the auto emptier feature isn’t really worth it. Also, when they advertise a more expensive model cleans 30-50% better, just disregard that. If you want to clean 100% better, just run the Roomba twice.

If you have pets, you may want to get the J series Roomba since they use AI to recognize cords and pet poop so they don’t spread it all over the floor.

I tried the 300 series Braava Mop and I don’t recommend. It was adequate I suppose but really not worth the $300 I paid. It doesn’t go back to the base, you have to manually put it there. Plus, it requires too much intervention when cleaning. The $450 M6 looks much better, but I think it’s just easier to mop manually. I didn’t like the consumables, having to purchase both cleaning pads and solution from Roomba. This isn’t required for the vacuums and I was a little put off by this.
